In 1910, Dr. Luther H. Gulick and his wife Charlotte Vetter Gulick began to build what is today Camp Fire USA. Begun as an organization for girls in one Vermont town, Camp Fire USA today is a national organization serving girls, boys, and families.

In keeping with the Gulicks' original goals, Camp Fire dedicates itself to one primary purpose that will endure for years to come:
To provide, through a program of informal education, opportunities for youth to realize their potential and to function effectively as caring, self-directed individuals responsible to themselves and to others, and, as an organization, to seek to improve those conditions in society which affect youth.
