Art in the Wild: Kicking Off Our Summer Family Adventure Series
Our Summer Family Adventure Series is officially underway, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to kick it off than with Art in the Wild at Camp Prairie Oaks!
Families spent the morning exploring, creating, and discovering that some of the best art supplies can be found right in nature.
As guests arrived, they were invited to add their own self-portrait to our community mural. It quickly became one of our favorite parts of the event—a colorful, creative guest book that captured all the smiling faces who joined us for the day.
From there, families rotated through a variety of hands-on art stations inspired by the natural world.
One of the biggest hits was experimenting with naturally occurring dyes. Children discovered how everyday ingredients like matcha, beet juice, and turmeric can create beautiful, vibrant colors. It was a fun way to blend art, science, and a little bit of messy exploration!
Families also created beautiful flower prints by carefully arranging fresh flowers on paper and gently hammering them to transfer their natural pigments and intricate shapes. Each print was completely unique, showcasing the beauty and color found in nature.
Next, young artists traded traditional paintbrushes for treasures collected from the outdoors. Leaves, sticks, flowers, and other natural materials became unique painting tools, proving that creativity can be found all around us.
Our final station gave everyone the opportunity to make their very own paper. Watching ordinary recycled materials transform into fresh sheets of handmade paper was a memorable experience and a wonderful reminder of how art and sustainability can go hand in hand.
Seeing families create together, explore the outdoors, and embrace the joy of making something with their own hands was exactly what our Summer Family Adventure Series is all about. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made our very first event such a success!

The fun isn't over yet! Our next Summer Family Adventure is Builders & Inventors on July 25.
Get ready for a morning filled with STEM challenges, engineering activities, creative building projects, and hands-on experiments. Families will design cardboard creations, build towers, test paper airplanes, protect an egg for an egg drop challenge, and even engineer boats to see whose design can stay afloat the longest!
