Wheaton's First Campout at Camp Prairie Oaks: A Weekend to Remember

Our very first overnight campout at Camp Prairie Oaks was nothing short of unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, the day was filled with excitement, laughter, and a true sense of adventure.

The kids jumped right into a full day of nature and fun. We spent time preparing for our upcoming Grand Council Fire, practicing and getting excited for this special end-of-year celebration. It was wonderful to see the kids working together and building confidence as they got ready for such an important moment.

One of the highlights of the day was creating nature boats and setting them sail in the lake. With a mix of creativity and curiosity, each child designed their own floating masterpiece and eagerly watched to see how it would glide across the water.

Throughout the day, we rotated through different stations where kids had the chance to explore the environment around them. They asked questions, made observations, and even took part in a hands-on science experiment. It was amazing to watch their curiosity come to life as they connected with nature in new ways.

As the evening approached, we gathered around the campfire to cook dinner together—a true camp experience! Of course, no campout would be complete without s’mores, and the kids loved ending the night with this classic treat.

Spending the night at camp was a big milestone, and the excitement carried right into the next morning as the kids woke up ready to head straight back outdoors for more exploring.

The entire experience was filled with fun, learning, teamwork, and memory-making… and yes—only one fire alarm!

We are so proud of our group for embracing this adventure, supporting one another, and making our first campout such a success. We can’t wait for many more nights under the stars at Camp Prairie Oaks!
